This Victorian slipper chair dates from the 19th century and exemplifies the English Country House style. The frame incorporates mahogany and fabric components, finished in a dusty pink colour with button back tufting, a diamond weave pattern, turned legs, and brass castors. Visible details include sun fading on the fabric, a deeply buttoned back, turned front legs, and splayed rear legs with original castors. The chair measures 83 cm in height, 58 cm in width, and 83 cm in depth, with a seat height of approximately 35 cm. Position this compact piece in a bedroom or dressing room as an occasional chair, or place it in a sitting room to complement traditional interior schemes. The low seat and modest footprint suit intimate spaces where traditional seating works best, while the muted pink upholstery brings warmth and texture to a room. It functions effectively either in its current sun faded condition or with a fresh covering to match a specific decorative palette.

Vacuum upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the chair positioned away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading, and apply natural wax polish to the turned timber legs periodically.

Position the chair in a bedroom corner, dressing area, or beside a fireplace, combining it with modern textiles or a contemporary side table to create a balanced scheme.

Look for hand-turned wooden legs, original brass or ceramic castors, deep button-tufting across the upholstery backrest, and a low frame construction designed without arms.

These chairs typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as mahogany or walnut, paired with coil-sprung seating, natural stuffing, turned timber legs, and metal or brass castors.

First popularised in the 19th century, slipper chairs were designed as low-seated, armless chairs to assist women in dressing and putting on shoes or slippers within bedrooms and dressing rooms.
