This is an antique knife box. An English, mahogany 46 item cutlery storage canteen, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.
Superb craftsmanship with beautiful figuring and useful proportion
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Select stocks present warm caramel hues and fine grain interest
Boxwood stringing decorates the interior with a lighter caramel colour
Dressed with a brass drop handle over a matching lock escutcheon — untested, key absent
Of distinctive shield form, the canted lid opens smoothly on oval shaped hinges
Arranged as a canteen of 46 individual pieces, with two being of sharpener shape
Base dressed with a green baize cushion to provide protection for surfaces
