Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian hand mirrors, produced between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, turned wood framing, and functional simplicity. They often feature dark woods such as mahogany or fruitwood and incorporate integrated suspension rings for hanging when not in use.

These mirrors were typically constructed using dense hardwoods, including mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood, turned on a lathe. The reflective plates were made of mercury-silvered glass, held in place by moulded wooden bezels, often accompanied by brass or iron suspension hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-turned wooden elements with slight asymmetries, natural age-related shrinkage in the timber frame, and oxidisation or foxing spots on the mercury-silvered glass plate. The hardware, such as top suspension loops, typically shows hand-forged or cast characteristics.

Place the mirror flat on a tray atop a vanity or bedside table to showcase its timber grain and silvering. Alternatively, mount it via its top loop alongside small framed artwork to create a textured gallery wall display.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to maintain the patinated surface. Avoid applying liquid cleaners directly to the glass to prevent moisture from penetrating the backing and causing further degradation of the silvering.
