Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Biedermeier furniture developed in the early-to-mid 19th century, adapting Central European Neoclassical designs into streamlined, domestic pieces. The style is recognised for its clean geometric forms, swept or scroll armrests, sabre legs, and the extensive use of light-coloured native veneers like satin birch.

Biedermeier craftsmen primarily utilised native European hardwoods, showcasing high-figured veneers such as satin birch, fruitwoods, walnut, and ash over softwood frames. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural horsehair padding, steel coil springs, and linen or silk fabrics.

Authentic pieces feature thick hand-cut wood veneers rather than modern thin machine-cut alternatives, showing subtle variation in grain pattern. Look for traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, evidence of hand-planing on undersides, and original French polish finishes.

The architectural silhouettes and warm timber tones of Biedermeier chairs complement contemporary neutral interiors. Placing a pair opposite a minimalist sofa or flanking a console table creates balanced symmetry, while neutral upholstery bridges historical design with modern aesthetics.

Keep timber furniture away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent veneer cracking or bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the French polished finish.
