Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Longcase clocks, commonly known as grandfather clocks, gained prominence in the 18th century as weight-driven pendulum timepieces housed in tall wooden cases to protect the mechanical pendulum and weights.

Eighteenth-century cases were frequently constructed from timber such as oak, veneered with figured walnut or mahogany, alongside cast brass dials, silvered chapter rings, and steel clockwork movements.

Authentic period pieces generally feature hand-engraved brass or silvered dials, spandrels cast in brass, hand-cut gear teeth, and original weight-driven movement mechanisms within traditional framed case construction.

Positioned as a focal accent in an entryway, hallway, or reception room, a walnut longcase clock introduces architectural height, warm timber tones, and historical contrast against contemporary backdrops.

Maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber shrinkage, dust the case with a soft dry cloth, apply bees wax sparingly, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every few years.
