Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Gothic Revival boxes are decorative storage containers crafted during the mid-to-late 19th century, inspired by medieval European architecture and design motifs. They typically feature pointed arch forms, intricate pierced brass strapwork, and rich figurative hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany.

These boxes were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods or fine wood veneers, including walnut, rosewood, and coromandel. Exterior embellishments often featured pierced brass mounts, metal escutcheons, and polished corner brackets secured with small metal rivets.

Authentic period pieces display construction features such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass lock mechanisms, and natural oxidisation on both timber and metalwork. Look for hand-pierced or cast brass strapwork secured with period-appropriate countersunk screws or pin rivets.

A Gothic Revival box serves as an accent piece on a console table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf. Placing it alongside contemporary ceramics, structured glassware, or minimalist artwork creates a balanced textural contrast within modern or eclectic interiors.

Dust the wooden surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain to preserve the finish. Avoid abrasive metal polishes on the brass mounts, as stripping the natural oxidisation can diminish the historical patina.
