This 1890 wall mirror originates from the Art Deco period and measures 34 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. The construction combines velvet, glass, and wood, finished in a rich burgundy colour on the plush fabric backing. The rectangular glass mirror plate incorporates bevelled edges and thirty-eight cut glass roundels arranged in geometric patterns around the perimeter. An integral clear glass shelf projects from the lower edge, while a metal hanging loop is attached at the top of the wooden backing panel. Suitable for placement in a narrow wall space, this decorative piece functions well in hallways, entryways, or compact living areas where reflective surfaces enhance natural light. The textile upholstery provides a textured contrast to the reflective glass elements, creating a distinctive visual composition. Maintenance involves standard glass cleaning alongside gentle dusting of the fabric backing to preserve the materials.

Produced during the early to mid-20th century, velvet-backed wall mirrors combine glass mirror plates with fabric backings to create visual contrast and texture. Frequently made with integrated glass shelves, these pieces functioned as both wall decoration and practical ledges for small vanity items.

These pieces consist of a central glass mirror panel mounted onto a fabric-wrapped board or wooden frame. Additional elements, such as bevelled borders, cut-glass roundels, or glass shelves, were held in place using metal clips, mounts, or concealed screws.

Authentic period examples often feature hand-cut glass bevels, geometric shapes, thumbprint roundel cuts, and natural age-related foxing on the reflective backing. The rear construction typically reveals aged timber, period hanging hardware, and authentic fabric wear.

Position the mirror in an entryway, dressing area, or narrow wall space to introduce warmth and texture. The integrated glass shelf provides a display platform for small scent bottles, single flower stems, or trinkets.

Clean the glass panel using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or glass cleaner, ensuring fluid does not seep under the edges onto the velvet. Gently vacuum the fabric backing using a low-power soft brush attachment to remove accumulated dust.
