Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall chairs originated in 18th and 19th-century residences to provide temporary seating for visitors waiting in an entrance hall or foyer. They were crafted without upholstery so that damp outer garments or street wear would not soil or damage delicate fabrics.

Hall chairs were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. They feature solid timber seats rather than upholstered cushions and frequently display carved or painted heraldic crests on the backrest.

Authentic 19th-century examples feature hand-carved timber backrests, solid wooden seats, and turned or shaped front legs paired with canted rear legs. Look for signs of historic hand-tooling, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural patination on the finish.

Position hall chairs in entryways, foyers, or wide corridors to create a structured formal greeting area. They can also be styled as accent pieces flanking a sideboard, console table, or architectural alcove.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to retain the timber moisture and natural lustre. Avoid placing solid wood chairs near direct heat sources or humid environments to prevent movement in the timber.
