This pair of Georgian flame mahogany cutlery boxes exhibits rich warm brown timber tones with intricate inlaid oval patera motifs centered on the sloped lids and delicate decorative stringing along the shaped edges. The serpentine front profiles incorporate curved wooden contours, keyhole escutcheons, and stepped tiered bases that establish a sculptural silhouette typical of English country house interiors. The polished timber surfaces display visible grain patterns and traditional joinery lines consistent with eighteenth-century craftsmanship, while the hinged lids open to reveal fitted internal storage compartments designed for keeping dining implements. Each individual box measures 36 cm high by 23 cm wide and 27 cm deep. These items sit upon the top of a dining room sideboard or a serving console to hold flatware, serving utensils, or decorative tableware while adding period character to a formal dining space or a traditional living area.

Georgian cutlery boxes, also known as knife boxes, were placed on sideboards in 18th-century dining rooms to store and display silver cutlery securely.

They were typically crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood, featuring softwood cores, contrasting inlaid stringing, and internal slotted divisions.

Authentic pieces feature sloped lids, serpentine or shaped fronts, hand-cut joinery, original brass escutcheons, and marquetry inlays such as starbursts or oval paterae.

Position them symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, hallway console table, or mantelpiece as decorative architectural accents or functional storage.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain occasionally, and keep away from direct sunlight or damp environments.
