A stylish and very well made pair of Swedish Art Deco armchairs in satin birch. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1930’s.

The quality is excellent, they are well sprung and very comfortable. The sweeping satin birch arms curve beautifully down to the front legs, giving them a sleek and curvaceous look. The satin birch has a lovely colour tone and wonderful grain patterns.

We have had the frames stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and they have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Art Deco, which gained prominence during the 1920s and 1930s, often prioritised functionalism combined with sleek, streamlined silhouettes and the use of native blonde woods like birch rather than darker exotic veneers.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, often utilising birch or beech, frequently adorned with highly figured wood veneers such as satin birch, paired with traditional coil springing and horsehair or foam upholstery.

Authentication involves examining the joinery, checking for period-correct veneer thicknesses, looking for makers marks or stamps from Scandinavian workshops, and assessing the natural ageing of the wood and internal webbing.

They pair exceptionally well with minimalist modern decor, acting as sculptural statement pieces when juxtaposed against neutral walls, industrial elements, or sleek metal and glass accents.

Protect the wood veneers from direct sunlight to prevent fading and maintain the finish with microcrystalline wax, while professional upholstery cleaning is recommended to preserve delicate fabric.
