A Chinese lacquer tea caddy is a traditional lidded container crafted to store and preserve loose-leaf tea, featuring multiple layers of refined tree sap resin finished with intricate hand-painted or carved designs.

These vessels are typically constructed from a wooden or papier-mache core, built up with numerous coats of natural lacquer, and frequently adorned with gold leaf highlights, etchings, or carved relief panels.

Authenticity is determined by examining the natural wear patterns, the composition of the lacquer base, hand-carved details, traditional joinery, and interior metal linings or wooden construction signatures characteristic of historical manufacturing periods.

This object can be displayed as a standalone decorative accent on a bookshelf, sideboard, or coffee table to introduce historical texture, cultural heritage, and artisanal craftsmanship into contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity, cleaning it only with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without chemical polishes.
