Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian open armchairs are characterised by exposed timber arm supports and legs, contrasting with fully upholstered sides. Originating in the mid-to-late 19th century, they frequently feature button-tufted backs, turned wooden elements, and integrated castors for portability.

These armchairs were built around solid hardwood frames, typically beech or oak. Seats were stuffed with horsehair or fibre over hand-tied steel coil springs, while external leg elements were crafted from dark hardwoods or softwoods ebonised to mimic ebony.

Authentic pieces feature traditional mortise-and-tenon frame joinery, original brass or ceramic castors often stamped with makers names, hand-sewn deep buttoning, and visible oxidisation or wear on exposed ebonised timber legs.

Place the chair alongside clean-lined minimalist furniture to let its sculptural profile and turned leg detail stand out. Neutral linen upholstery allows it to integrate seamlessly into modern rustic, minimalist, or transitional spaces.

Vacuum fabric regularly using a soft brush attachment and treat spills immediately with a dry cloth. Protect ebonised wooden components from direct sunlight and apply a dark beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the timber finish.
