FAQs

Country kitchen chairs evolved from traditional vernacular furniture making traditions, crafted by local joiners and bodgers using regionally available timbers to provide sturdy seating for domestic and agricultural households.

These chairs are typically constructed using a combination of hardwoods such as oak or elm for seats and frames, utilizing traditional joinery techniques like wedged mortise and tenon joints and turned spindles.

Authenticity is identified through patination, tool marks from hand planes or drawknives, construction wear patterns around the stretchers and seat, and historical timber shrinkage consistent with age.

They can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing them with a sleek, minimalist dining table to create a deliberate contrast between historic texture and modern clean lines.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight or heat sources, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the historic finish.
