Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of Thonet style side chairs from the 1920 period offers functional seating for dining spaces, bistros, cafés, and farmhouse kitchens. Constructed from steamed and shaped beechwood in a warm brown timber colour, the construction incorporates steam-bent elements with a double loop back design. The circular plywood seats display an impressed embossed decorative shell motif on the upper surface. Four slender rounded legs connect via curved stretchers underneath the seat frame for structural support. These pieces measure 89 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Position these items around a kitchen table or in a dining room to introduce rustic farmhouse character to an interior. The compact footprint makes them suitable for everyday use in compact dining areas, breakfast nooks, or informal reception spaces. The visible wood grain finish and steam-bent curves provide classic café styling that integrates easily with vintage and traditional furnishings in a domestic setting.

FAQs

Bentwood furniture is crafted by steaming timber until pliable and bending it into curved structural shapes, a process patented by Michael Thonet in the mid-19th century.

Beech wood is predominantly utilized for its flexibility when steamed, combined with moulded plywood panels for the seat construction.

Authentic bentwood chairs often feature paper maker labels or stamped markings beneath the seat frame, alongside visible steam-bent curves and hand-assembled screw fixings.

These chairs add architectural line and tone around contemporary dining tables, function as accent seating in hallways, or suit kitchen dining nooks.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth, avoid exposure to direct heat sources to prevent wood movement, and apply natural wax paste periodically to protect the finish.
