Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early 19th century, Regency faux bamboo furniture reflects the European fascination with Chinoiserie and Asian aesthetics. Craftsmen turned European woods, such as beech or pine, to mimic the distinctive nodes and hollow stems of natural bamboo, finishing them with hand-painted faux grain and speckling.

These chairs were typically framed using turned native hardwoods, predominantly beech, which allowed for precise lathe-turning to replicate bamboo stalks. The seats were traditionally woven using natural rush or cane, while the frames received layers of paint, lacquer, or scumble glazing to simulate bamboo skin or tortoiseshell patterns.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-turned wood rather than actual imported bamboo stalks. Look for irregular, hand-painted details, subtle wear to the paintwork where hands and clothing naturally rest, pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, and evidence of hand-harvested rush weaving on the seat frame.

These versatile side chairs function as striking accent pieces in contemporary spaces. Place them individually in a hallway, set them beside a dressing table, or pair them with a modern dining table to create a layered, eclectic interior scheme.

Maintain the painted finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture. To prevent the natural rush seat from drying out or fraying, keep the chair away from direct heat sources and occasionally wipe the rush lightly with a damp cloth to retain humidity.
