FAQs

A Georgian netting box is a specialised container crafted during the 18th and early 19th centuries, designed specifically to hold tools, thread, and materials for netting and lace-making, which were popular pursuits for women of the period.

These boxes were typically constructed from lightweight woods such as pine or fruitwood, often featuring hand-painted paper, varnished finishes, silk or velvet linings, and internal wooden or bone spindles for holding thread.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct joinery, hand-applied decorative papers or hand-painted floral motifs, age-appropriate wear to the varnish, and traditional interior fittings such as silk-covered pincushions and wooden spindles.

This piece can be displayed on a bookshelf, side table, or mantelpiece as a decorative accent object, adding historical texture and a touch of traditional craft to a curated interior scheme.

Preserve the box by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of the painted surfaces and textiles, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth without using liquid cleaners.
