Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. FAQs

Balloon back chairs emerged during the Victorian era in Britain, characterised by their distinctive rounded, oval backrest frames that resembled the shape of a hot air balloon.

These chairs were traditionally crafted from dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, featuring hand-carved details and upholstered seats padded with horsehair or wool stuffing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period joinery methods such as hand-cut dovetails or tenons, traditional french polish finishes, and age-appropriate wear to the timber and underside webbing.

They can be used as eclectic accent pieces around a contemporary dining table or placed singly in a bedroom or hallway to introduce textural contrast and historical character.

Preserve the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional high-quality beeswax, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
