Named after Andre-Charles Boulle, Boulle work is a marquetry technique inlaying brass and tortoiseshell onto wood. Popularised during the reign of Louis XIV, it saw major revivals throughout the nineteenth century across Europe.

Authentic pieces frequently combine brass marquetry, tortoiseshell, or ebonised wood veneers, supported by a hardwood frame such as rosewood or mahogany with brass border mounts.
