A stunning coromandel stationary box by W. Leuchars of Piccadilly, London (Maker''s to the Royal Family), c.1860. Key absent.
 
The highly polished coromandel is adorned with solid brass banding in the gothic taste, with a a ''CC'' monogram to the centre of the lid. The lid opens to reveal a blue silk lined interior, the gilt ''Leuchars'' maker stamp and numerous compartments for stationary.
 
There are some signs of wear commensurate with age, most notably a small split to the wood to the upper section of the lid (please see photographs), but generally the box remains in a very good attractive condition throughout.

THE MAKER
 
Leuchars was established at 47 Piccadilly, London in 1794 by James Leuchars. In 1820, the business moved to 38 Piccadilly shortly before James Leuchars died in 1823.
