Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fake book boxes became popular during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as functional items designed to blend into private libraries and studies. They were created to disguise secret compartments, conceal valuables, or simply fill empty bookshelf spaces in grand residences.

Traditional faux books were constructed from timber frames or papier-mache, covered in genuine leather or marbled paper. The spines were decorated with gold leaf tooling, raised bands, and painted titling to replicate authentic leather-bound volumes.

Authentic period examples display genuine signs of age, such as natural patination on the leather, fine craquelure, and hand-tooled gold leaf detailing. Examining the interior construct typically reveals hand-jointed woodwork, period lining papers, or historical hinge mechanisms.

Integrate these pieces into contemporary interiors by arranging them on open shelving, stacked on a coffee table, or placed on a desk to conceal clutter. They add rich texture and historical depth when paired with clean-lined modern joinery.

Keep leather-bound containers away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent cracking or warping. Apply a specialist conservation leather conditioner sparingly to maintain flexibility, and dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth.
