Georgian Chippendale Style Parcel-gilt Mahogany Pier-glass Mirror with Hoho Bird Fretwork, Late Victorian, C.1900

19th century
Description

Georgian Chippendale Style Parcel-Gilt Mahogany Pier Mirror, Late Victorian, c.1900

A handsome late 19th to early 20th century wall mirror in the Georgian Chippendale style. The mahogany veneered fretwork frame is parcel-gilt, surrounding an oblong mirror plate with a gilt inner border. The crested top is centred by a Hoho bird cartouche, with a shaped apron below. Fitted with a chain for hanging, and retaining the original mirror plate with a light, attractive foxing.

An elegant decorative mirror, in good condition, well presented and ready for use.

Dimensions

Frame: approx. 99.5 cm (39.1") tall × 56.5 cm (22.25") wide × 4 cm (1.75") deep

Mirror plate: approx. 58 cm (22.75") × 38 cm (15.1")

Condition

Good condition overall, commensurate with age.

Structurally sound.

Minor marks and blemishes to the frame.

Fine scratch to the crest, small loss to a fret tip (bottom right), and some light overpainting to the gilt.

Original glass with a little foxing, adding character.

Cleaned, waxed, and ready for use.

As with all antique furniture, signs of age and use should be expected, but this remains a well-preserved and highly decorative mirror.
