Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A psyche or dressing mirror is a free-standing, tiltable tabletop or floor mirror introduced during the Neoclassical period. Designed primarily for vanity tables, these pieces frequently incorporated integrated candle sconces to provide direct illumination before electricity.

Nineteenth-century dressing mirrors were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or ebonised fruitwood, accented with cast brass or gilt-bronze (ormolu) mountings. Fine examples frequently featured decorative mother-of-pearl inlay, Boulle marquetry, or micro-mosaic borders.

Authentic 19th-century mirrors exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on base drawers, original mercury or early silvered glass with characteristic age-related oxidisation, and hand-chased brass or bronze mounts showing natural tarnish in recessed areas.

Position the mirror on a contemporary dressing table, console, or fireplace mantel to create a refined focal point. The dark ebonised finish and metallic detailing contrast effectively against light neutral walls, dark academia palettes, or stone surfaces.

Clean the timber and delicate mother-of-pearl inlay using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or harsh solvents. Metal sconces should be dusted gently, while the mirror plate requires careful wiping without allowing moisture to seep into the surrounding frame.
