This large George III tea caddy dates from the 18th century, exhibiting a rectangular shape with canted corners and a burr walnut finish in a warm brown tone. Surface details include boxwood stringing, two oval marquetry inlay panels on the front, a diamond-shaped key escutcheon, and a top brass loop handle. The visible signs of age include fine surface crazing across the top veneer and minor wear along the edges. It stands 16 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this item serves as a decorative tabletop accessory suited for display on a sideboard top or accent table within an English country house interior style. It provides practical storage for small keepsakes while adding period character to a living room, hallway, or study.

Originating in 18th-century Britain, George III tea caddies were crafted to store tea securely under lock and key. They typically feature classical geometric forms, octagonal or canted corner profiles, and detailed veneer work including oval marquetry and stringing.

Cabinetmakers utilised hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and satinwood, often adorned with boxwood or ebony inlays. The interior compartments were lined with lead foil to protect the tea leaves from atmospheric humidity.

Authentic Georgian caddies exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, subtle wood shrinkage along joinery lines, and period-correct iron or brass lock mechanisms. The underside typically displays irregular wear patterns consistent with hand manufacturing.

A wooden tea caddy functions as a decorative tabletop object on a sideboard, console, or bookshelf. Its compact proportions and natural timber tone allow it to contrast with contemporary decor or complement classic settings.

Dust the timber surface using a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the wood. Position the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent veneer movement or lifting.
