Antique 19th Century American Colonial Bentwood Elbow Chair
£395 $535 €465
Antique American Bentwood Elbow Chair.
An Authentic 19th Century classic chair ideal as a desk chair.
This is a superb 19th-century American Colonial bentwood arm elbow chair, a beautiful example of country furniture that bears a wonderful, time-worn patina. The chair exhibits a rich, deep color and a satiny feel that speaks to its history. It retains its original French polished finish, which has aged gracefully to highlight the natural beauty of the wood.
The construction is robust, featuring a gracefully curved elm backrest with a wavy, shaped top rail and a series of turned spindles. The arms are a testament to the very skillful way of steam-bending wood, sweeping down to meet the seat and supported by additional turned spindles. The seat itself is made from fruitwood with a nicely sculpted seat with lovely grain and a wonderful worn patina. The legs are simple yet sturdy, joined by double stretchers that provide excellent stability.
The chair''s overall condition is ve...ry good, having been sympathetically restored and waxed in our workshop. It shows the expected wear that adds to its authentic charm. The chair is structurally very sound, with no loose joints or wobbles, and shows no evidence of woodworm. This chair is not only a functional piece of furniture but also a decorative item with significant historical appeal, perfect for any interior seeking a touch of rustic charm and genuine authenticity.
Condition and Provenance As an antique, this chair does show signs of age and use. While in fantastic condition, expect minor marks consistent with historical pieces. The chair is of a great quality and is structurally sound, with no major damage that would detract from its beauty or functionality.
