Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cheval mirror is a full-length dressing glass mounted in a dual-post frame that allows the glass to pivot freely. Popularised in the 19th century, these freestanding mirrors provided complete head-to-toe reflection in Victorian dressing rooms and bedrooms.

These mirrors were typically crafted from solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring hand-turned upright posts, mortise-and-tenon joinery, and heavy splayed legs. The glass plates were silvered using early chemical methods and supported by adjustable brass side knobs.

Authentic 19th-century examples display period joinery techniques, natural wood grain variation beneath original shellac polishes, and brass hardware or castors showing gentle oxidisation. The backboard of the mirror frame should feature original timber panelling or hand-planed wood.

Position the mirror in a master bedroom dressing area, hallway alcove, or modern bathroom suite to introduce rich wood tones and vertical proportion. Its reflective surface helps maximise natural light while adding historical character to minimalist or transitional decor schemes.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the grain to preserve the original finish. Clean the mirror glass carefully with a gentle solvent, taking care not to spill liquids onto the wooden frame or silvering edges.
