Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King William IV (18301837), these mirrors bridge the late Regency and early Victorian periods, often featuring bold Rococo revival elements, floral motifs, acanthus carving, and heavy gilding designed to sit atop a fireplace mantelpiece.

Frames were typically constructed from carved pinewood or limewood, coated with layers of gesso and composition mouldings, and finished with gold leaf. The reflective surface comprised silvered glass or mercury-backed mirror plates.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved wooden backings, subtle craquelure or wear to the gesso and water gilding, age-related oxidation or foxing on the mirror glass, and traditional joint construction rather than modern synthetic materials.

Positioning a gilded overmantel mirror above a fireplace or a minimalist sideboard creates a central focal point, drawing natural light and contrasting classical detail against neutral or dark contemporary wall tones.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft, dry feather duster or camel-hair brush, avoiding wet cloths or harsh chemicals that can strip gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass by spraying cleaner onto a microfibre cloth rather than directly on the surface.
