The William and Mary style, prevalent in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, is characterised by Dutch and French influences, featuring high backs, turned legs, and elaborate upholstery.

These chairs were typically constructed using native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or beech, often featuring hand-carved details and upholstered panels filled with natural fibres.

Authentication involves examining construction techniques such as traditional joinery, hand-turned elements, wood oxidisation, and period-appropriate textile attachments.

Such pieces serve as striking focal points in contemporary settings, contrasting effectively with minimalist furniture when placed in a living room or study.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, alongside gentle dusting of the wooden frame and professional textile cleaning.
