A Rare Yew wood High Back Windsor Chair with an Elm seat. made by William Wheatland who originally was working in the town of Retford c 1820 in 1826 he moved to the new Village of Rockley and set up a workshop there, he was a Methodist mininster and built a small chapel in Rockley which unfortunatly left him in dire streights with no money left so in 1829 he gave up chair making leaving his new partner George Nicholson in charge of the workshop. this chair was probably made from his time in Retford ,it has all the hall marks of Williams early chairs and is quite rare being a high back he usually made the low back windsor chair . The condition is excellent
