FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, developing from vernacular woodworking traditions where individual sticks or spindles were inserted into a solid wooden seat.

Traditional construction typically involves multiple timber types, combining a durable hardwood like ash or beech for the legs and spindles with a softer, stable wood such as elm for the carved seat.

Authentic pieces often show hand- turned spindles, wedged tenon joints passing through the seat, adze marks on the sculpted seat, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

These chairs work well contrasted against a modern minimalist dining table or used as standalone accent pieces to introduce organic warmth and historic character into a room.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, periodically feeding the wood with natural beeswax to preserve the finish.
