This 1860 kitchen chair is designed in the English Country style as a carver chair, constructed from elm, beech, and oak with a warm brown and light honey finish. The rustic farmhouse piece incorporates vertical spindles, a scalloped crest rail, a carved floral motif, and turned arm supports and front legs. Additional visible details include fluted ear carvings on the crest rail corners, vertical grooves along the turned front legs, and visible wood grain patterns across the shaped wooden seat. Measuring 97 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, the chair stands on standard floor resting points with stretcher bars. Suitable for use in a kitchen or as an extra seat in a dining room, the chair provides functional seating around a dining table or desk. The open-arm design allows it to function as a standalone accent chair in a living space or bedroom corner. The durable wooden construction suits everyday domestic use while maintaining a traditional aesthetic.

FAQs

A carver chair is a wooden dining armchair traditionally positioned at the head of a table, often featuring spindle backs, carved crest rails, and turned legs.

Regional country chairs were traditionally constructed using native hardwoods such as elm for the shaped seat, beech for turned spindles and legs, and oak or pine for the carved crest rail.

Authentic period chairs display hand-carved ornamentation, pegged joints, natural surface wear along the armrests and seat, and non-uniform timber turning.

A wooden carver chair can be positioned at the head of a modern dining table, used as a standalone accent piece in a hallway, or paired with a contemporary writing desk.

Solid wood chairs should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and conditioned periodically using natural beeswax, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent movement or cracking.
