This pair of 1850 English Country dining chairs consists of two Windsor wheelback kitchen chairs made from elm and beech in a warm brown colour. Each chair features a hoop back with multiple spindle supports framing a central pierced wheelback splat, a contoured wooden seat, and turned legs connected by H-stretchers. The timber displays visible grain patterns and natural tone variations across the seats and frames. The dimensions are 44 cm wide, 44 cm deep, and 86 cm high overall, with a seat height of 44 cm. These chairs suit placement around a kitchen dining table or as accent seating in a living room, hallway or study. Their traditional rustic farmhouse aesthetic complements both period and contemporary interior schemes. The sturdy construction provides reliable everyday seating while adding classic character to domestic spaces.

Originating in 18th-century England, a Windsor wheelback chair features a solid wooden seat into which the legs and back spindles are socketed directly, distinguished by a central back splat pierced with a wheel motif.

These chairs traditionally feature a contoured seat carved from solid elm due to its split-resistant grain, while the arched hoop back, spindles, and turned legs are crafted from steam-bent hardwoods such as ash or beech.

Authenticity is indicated by saddle-shaped seats showing original tool marks, wedged joinery where the leg tenons protrude through the seat top, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

Windsor chairs can be paired with modern oak or scrubbed pine dining tables to introduce texture and historic form, or placed individually as accent seating in hallways and bedrooms.

To preserve timber seating, keep pieces clear of direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply beeswax polish periodically to protect the finish.
