Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In the Georgian era, tea was a costly commodity imported into Britain, prompting owners to store loose tea leaves under lock and key. Tea caddies were designed as small, decorative wooden boxes with internal compartments and locks to safeguard and preserve these valuable leaves.

Georgian craftspeople used fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and burr walnut veneers. Details often incorporated delicate marquetry, mother-of-pearl or bone inlays, brass hinges, and silk or lead foil linings inside the compartments.

Authentic period pieces display period-appropriate joinery such as fine hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass escutcheons, natural shrinkage lines, and a developed patina on the walnut wood. The interior often retains remnants of original metal foil lining or compartments.

A Georgian tea caddy can be displayed on a console table, sideboard, or bookshelf to add texture and history to modern spaces. It serves as an accent piece while providing functional storage for small trinkets, keys, or jewellery.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean the surface gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the natural lustre.
