Description

These are a very nice pair of sabre legged Regency period side chairs. The have a very attractive worn original ebonised finish. The brass details all over are also original but some have been reattached through their life. There is also a brass roundel missing but hardly noticeable and nothing takes away from the quality and design of these chairs. The ideal occasional seating. The back rest with tight bobbin detail is also very smart.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Regency style furniture emerged in Britain during the early 19th century, heavily influenced by neoclassical architecture and Greco-Roman antiquities.

These chairs were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as beech or mahogany, often ebonised to imitate exotic timbers, and frequently featured woven cane seats and gilded brass mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery, hand-turned elements, aged patination on the ebonisation, and traditional woven caning rather than modern machine-made alternatives.

They make striking accent pieces around a contemporary dining table or as standalone occasional chairs to introduce historical contrast and sculptural lines into a minimalist space.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft cloth and avoiding direct sunlight; the cane seat should be kept lightly moisturised with a damp sponge occasionally to prevent it from drying out and snapping.
