An Empire Style Fauteuil
In the Manner of Jacob-Desmalter (1770-1841)
The single armchair constructed from mahogany, the tablet toprail with central cast brass mount of two opposed swans holding a banner, the back, arms and seat covered in red neoclassical fabric, down scrolled arms with anthemion carved motifs, on stiff leaf carved scrolled sabre legs.

The chair and its upholstery are directly inspired by the bergčre made by Franēois-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter for Queen Hortense when she ruled over Holland alongside her husband Louis Napoleon, the French emperor''s brother. Her son would later also become Emperor of the French as Napoleon III.
