Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma pottery is a style of Japanese earthenware ceramics that originated in the Satsuma province during the late sixteenth century. Characterised by a light cream-coloured body with a fine crackle glaze, these pieces frequently feature detailed hand-painted enamels and gold decoration depicting figurative or floral scenes.

Satsuma ceramics are manufactured using low-fired earthenware clay coated in a translucent cream glaze that naturally develops micro-fractures, known as crackle glaze. Overglaze decorations were applied using polychrome enamel pigments and gold paint or leaf to achieve detailed polychromatic designs.

Authentic pieces feature a distinct yellowish-cream earthenware fabric underneath a uniform crackle glaze, rather than a hard white porcelain body. Look for hand-applied enamel work with slight textural elevation, gilded highlights, and traditional painted maker or workshop marks on the underside.

A pair of Satsuma vases can be arranged symmetrically on a mantelpiece or sideboard top to create visual balance. Their warm cream, terracotta, and gold tones complement dark wood furniture, neutral plaster backdrops, or curated eclectic displays.

Due to the porous nature of earthenware and delicate overglaze enamelling, these ceramics should not be immersed in water or cleaned with abrasive chemical detergents. Dust surfaces with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or microfibre brush, avoiding direct friction over gilded areas.
