This Queen Anne dressing table mirror dates from the 18th century and is constructed from warm brown burr walnut and walnut with glass and brass elements. The design incorporates an arched swing frame mounted on a sloping bureau base with a serpentine drawer, brass drop handles, and shaped bracket feet. The timber displays a rich burr veneer with visible figuring across the fall flap and drawer fronts, while the upright supports show turned details flanking the bevelled glass plate. Measuring 95 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 35 cm deep, this compact vanity mirror is suited for placement on a dressing table, chest of drawers, or sideboard in a bedroom, dressing room, or living space.

FAQs

Originating in early 18th-century England, Queen Anne toilet mirrors are freestanding tabletop mirrors often mounted above a small sloping bureau or drawer base, featuring curved frames, figured walnut veneers, and modest proportions.

These mirrors typically feature solid walnut or pine framing veneered in highly figured burr walnut, alongside hand-cast brass hardware, feather-banding inlay, and bevelled glass.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-sawn timber backs, oak or pine drawer linings with hand-cut dovetail joints, original mirror glass exhibiting foxing, and period-appropriate brass fittings.

Position the mirror atop a modern chest of drawers, a hallway console table, or a dressing table to introduce warm timber tones and historical texture into contemporary room layouts.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain, ensuring cleaning agents do not contact the mirror glass or metalwork.
