Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early 19th century under the reign of Napoleon, French Empire toilet mirrors feature Neoclassical motifs, patinated bronze or gilt metalwork, and robust bases formed from marble or rich timber. They were created as portable vanity mirrors for dressing tables.

These mirrors traditionally incorporate cast bronze with dark patination or gilt-bronze (ormolu) finishes, mounted upon marble or mahogany bases. The reflective glass was typically mercury-silvered and held within a swivel frame.

Authentic pieces display hand-chased gilt bronze mounts, detailed metal castings, heavy natural marble bases, and genuine age wear such as oxidisation in recesses and light foxing on the glass plate.

Position the mirror on a contemporary console table, marble mantelpiece, or dressing table to create a focal point. Pair it with minimalist ceramic vessels or neutral linen textures to complement the metallic detailing.

Dust the bronze and ormolu elements gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding chemical cleansers that strip patination. Wipe the marble base with a damp cloth and dry immediately.
