FAQs

Faux bamboo mirrors emulate the natural joints and rings of bamboo through carved or turned wood, gaining popularity during the Victorian era and influenced by 19th-century Japonisme and export trade aesthetics.

These frames are typically crafted from softwoods or hardwoods such as pine or beech, which are hand-turned or carved to mimic bamboo stalks, then finished with gesso and gold leaf or metallic paint.

Authentic pieces often display period-appropriate joinery, hand-applied gesso cracking, genuine wear to the gilding, and older mirror plates featuring minor oxidation or bevelled edges.

This piece can serve as a striking focal point above a mantelpiece or console table, adding textural warmth and metallic contrast to modern, minimalist, or eclectic design schemes.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, excess moisture, and direct sunlight to protect the fragile gold leaf or painted finish.
