Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bilston enamels originated in the West Midlands of England during the mid-to-late eighteenth century. Workshops in Bilston and South Staffordshire produced small, enamelled copper wares decorated with hand-painted scenes, flowers, and gilding, serving as functional luxury items such as patch boxes, snuff boxes, and scent bottles.

These items were manufactured using thin sheets of copper shaped into forms, which were then coated in vitreous white enamel and fired. Surface decoration was hand-painted using metallic oxide pigments before a final firing, with gilded brass or copper alloy rims and hinges fitted to finish the construction.

Authentic pieces feature copper substrates visible along minor enamel chips, fine micro-crazing beneath the surface, hand-drawn detailing, and period-appropriate metal mounts attached with soft solder or pins rather than modern adhesives.

Small enamel boxes function well as accent display objects placed atop a tray on a mantelpiece, styled on a bedroom dressing table, or layered within a curated glass display cabinet among books and ceramics.

Enamel should be dusted gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion in water or exposure to chemical cleaning agents, as liquid can seep behind the metal mounts and damage the underlying copper or glue joints.
