Louis XVI style is characterised by a return to classical symmetry, straight lines, fluted columns, and neoclassical motifs, moving away from the preceding excessive curves of the Rococo period.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as beech or oak, which were then layered with gesso, hand-gilded with gold leaf, and traditionally upholstered over webbed frames.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-carved detailing, historical joinery methods such as mortise and tenon, natural wear to the gold leaf revealing the red gesso base underneath, and hand-woven textile upholstery.

Positioning the chair as a standalone accent piece against minimalist walls or alongside contemporary furnishings creates a striking contrast that highlights its historical craftsmanship.

Maintain giltwood by gently dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding chemical cleaning agents, and protecting delicate textiles from direct sunlight to prevent fading and fibre degradation.
