Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Black Forest wood carving originated in Brienz, Switzerland, during the early 19th century rather than the Black Forest region of Germany. Local artisans developed a tradition of sculpting detailed wildlife, game birds, and natural foliage to sell to international tourists completing the Grand Tour.

Craftsmen predominantly used native hardwoods such as walnut, linden wood (lime), and oak. Walnut was favoured for detailed caskets due to its dense grain, rich colour, and ability to hold fine carved relief work.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, realistic depictions of flora and fauna, and natural patination within crevices. High-relief carving techniques and integrated scroll legs or realistic branch borders are characteristic of 19th-century workshop output.

A carved wooden casket functions as a decorative accent on a desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf. Pairing dense dark timber with contemporary glass or brass accessories creates visual contrast in traditional and eclectic interiors.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry bristle brush to reach intricate carved crevices. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once a year to protect the timber, keeping the object away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
