A late C19th carved mahogany armchair in the mid C18th George II Chippendale period style, together with a matching single chair.
Finely carved and pierced interlaced ribbon splat backs with a central carved patera and a lambrequin tassel onto a gadroon carved ‘shoe’ . The shaped serpentine top rail with leaf scroll carved ends . The armchair having shaped out-swept arms with carved eagles-head terminals . The arms having achieved an aged surface and colour commensurate with age , use and purpose.
Both chairs of bold scale and proportions, raised on carved cabriole forelegs with carved acanthus leaf and C-scroll decoration to the knees, onto claw-and-ball feet. The seats having drop-in pads with atmospherically worn period-style floral tapestry needlework covers .
In excellent original condition having a rich period-style colour and patina to the superior grade of selected mahogany , with no damage or repairs.
Faithfully and skilfully executed copies of important mid C18th mahogany chairs .
Would perhaps work well as a pair of chairs to use with a desk or library table.
