We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Spindle back chairs feature a backrest constructed from multiple slender, turned wooden rods or spindles. Rooted in traditional country craftsmanship, this style gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries for its structural strength and lightweight design.

These chairs are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as ash, elm, oak, or beech, often combined with woven rush or straw seats. Traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints and turned components, ensure structural integrity without metal fasteners.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age-appropriate wear, hand-turned tool marks on the spindles, variations in wood grain, and natural oxidisation. Examination of the rush weaving underneath and the construction joints often reveals historical handcraft methods distinct from modern reproductions.

Pairing antique wooden chairs with a sleek, modern dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights their craftsmanship. They also function well as standalone accent seating in a living room, hallway, or bedroom to introduce organic texture and historical character.

Maintain antique wooden chairs by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood. Keep rush seats away from excessive moisture and direct sunlight to prevent the natural fibres from drying out and becoming brittle.
