This set of four early nineteenth-century Shropshire farmhouse chairs exemplifies English vernacular style, constructed from elm and ash with a warm brown finish. Each piece features a spindle back with shaped vertical supports, corner finials on the rear posts, attractively grained solid wooden seats, and well-turned double front stretchers resting on simple legs. Visible details include small losses, old treated worm holes, and natural wear and marks consistent with age. Measuring 90 cm high, 38 cm deep, and 44 cm wide, these sturdy country dining chairs suit everyday use around a kitchen or dining table in a rustic interior. They provide practical seating while bringing traditional character to contemporary homes.

Regional Georgian farmhouse chairs were constructed by local village joiners using native British hardwoods, featuring functional designs tailored to regional preferences such as Shropshire spindle backs.

Local craftsmen utilised dense native timbers such as oak, ash, and elm, securing joinery with traditional mortise and tenon joints and wooden pegs.

Authentic pieces show hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural wear to lower stretchers from foot placement, and subtle hand-tooling variations across the set.

Position a set of regional country chairs around a contemporary dining table to create visual contrast through mixed textures and historical timber patination.

Clean surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth and apply high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood and preserve the surface finish.
