Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Windsor rocking chair exemplifies traditional English country style, executed in a combination of elm and beech with a dark brown finish. The construction incorporates a hoop back filled with slender vertical spindles, curved armrests flaring outwards at the ends, and a shaped wooden seat showing historical repairs alongside visible signs of age and extensive use. Below the seat, turned supporting legs connect through stretchers, mounted onto curved wooden rocking runners. For practical placement in a modern interior, this piece serves as a functional seating option for a living room, bedroom or nursery setting. The chair stands with approximate dimensions of 95 cm in height, 65 cm in width and 70 cm in depth, offering a compact footprint suited to various domestic spaces. Constructed entirely from timber, the frame displays prominent grain variations throughout the dark brown wood surfaces, together with scuffs and wear along the seat edges. The backrest design relies on closely spaced spindles arched beneath a continuous steam-bent hoop, while the front arm supports feature decorative ring turnings above the legs. This rustic farmhouse piece provides comfortable lounge seating, bringing traditional character and utility to interior decoration schemes.

FAQs

A Windsor rocking chair features a solid wooden seat into which the back spindles and legs are socketed directly, mounted on curved wooden rockers that allow a smooth motion.

These pieces were typically crafted from native British hardwoods such as elm for the shaped seat, beech or ash for the bent hoops and spindles, and oak for structural supports.

Authentic examples display hand-turned components, wedged tenon joints visible through the seat, natural surface wear to the armrests and rockers, and subtle irregularities consistent with hand tool shaping.

Position the chair in a reading nook or bedroom corner, paired with a textured wool throw and a minimalist side table to contrast historic woodwork against contemporary surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually, avoiding direct heat sources or damp environments that could cause the timber to split or warp.
