Originating during the early nineteenth century under Napoleon Bonaparte, French Empire style seating is defined by Neoclassical symmetry, dark hardwoods, bold architectural silhouettes, and brass or gilded bronze ornamentation.

These chairs were primarily constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, adorned with cast and chased gilded bronze or brass mounts, and upholstered in luxurious fabrics such as silk damask, velvet, or leather.
