Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dust the carved frame gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush to avoid flaking fragile gilding. Clean the glass plate with a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth, ensuring no liquid seeps behind the frame where it could damage the historic mirror backing.

A carved antique mirror can be styled above a contemporary console table or modern fireplace mantelpiece to create visual contrast. The rich patina and carved texture complement both minimalist interiors and traditional gallery wall arrangements.

Authentic pieces display signs of age such as dark specks and oxidisation on the mercury glass backing, hand-sawn backboards secured with wrought-iron nails, and natural wear or exposed red bole clay beneath the gilded surface.

These mirrors were constructed using hand-carved softwoods such as pine or lime, coated in layers of gesso, and finished with gold leaf gilding or coloured polychrome paint. The reflective surfaces utilised mercury-amalgamated glass plates, often incorporating small decorative glass slips along the frame perimeter.

The French Regence style represents a transitional decorative period in the early 18th century between the heavy grandeur of Louis XIV and the asymmetric rococo curves of Louis XV. Mirrors from this era feature symmetrical hand-carved frames, botanical elements such as floral corner blocks and acanthus leaves, and structured linear borders.
