Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XV style cheval mirror is a full-length floor-standing dressing mirror supported by a dual-upright frame that allows the glass to pivot. Originating in French decorative arts, the style is characterised by asymmetrical Rococo curves, sweeping cabriole legs, and decorative metal mounts.

These mirrors were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as walnut, kingwood, or mahogany, often decorated with crossbanded veneers and marquetry. The decorative accents are crafted from cast gilt bronze, known as ormolu, framing mercury-silvered mirror glass.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-chased gilt bronze mounts secured with early iron screws, hand-sawn timber backing panels, and natural wear patterns along the swivel mechanisms. Original mirror glass often exhibits subtle spotting or oxidisation beneath the silvered surface.

Position a floor-standing cheval mirror in a dressing room, primary bedroom suite, or spacious entrance hallway to reflect natural light and create a sense of depth. Its ornate silhouette serves as an architectural anchor when contrasted against understated modern backdrop finishes.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally along the wood grain. Clean gilt bronze mounts gently with a soft bristle brush, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could strip the gilding or damage adjacent timber.
