This Victorian wall mirror consists of a rectangular glass plate housed within a silver-coloured metal frame decorated with repousse floral patterns, gadrooned edges, and a scalloped rim. Three candle branches with matching sconces project from the base of the frame, providing integrated lighting hardware. Signs of age include a fine vertical hairline crack across the top right section of the embossed border. Measuring 46 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, the piece hangs securely in narrow wall spaces throughout the home. Interior spaces benefit from mounting this item in hallways, drawing rooms, or above mantlepieces where candles can be lit to reflect ambient light off the mirrored surface. The reflective glass combines with the metallic finish and floral ornamentation to add traditional Victorian character to entryways, compact alcoves, or bedrooms. Maintenance requires gentle cleaning of the metal and glass components using appropriate soft cloths.

A girandole mirror sconce is a wall-mounted decorative mirror fitted with integral candle branches, designed to double the light output of candles by reflecting flames across the glass surface.

Historically, these items were crafted using sheet brass, copper, or silver-plated metals worked with repousse and chasing techniques, paired with silvered flat or bevelled mirror glass plates.

Authentic period pieces display irregular hand-hammered details on the reverse, hand-cut glass plates, natural patina or oxidisation in metal crevices, and square-headed screws or hand-riveted joints.

Position the sconce in narrow spaces such as hallways, alcoves, or dining areas to act as a focal light reflective accent that contrasts with modern painted backdrops.

Dust the metal border regularly with a soft dry brush and clean the glass plate with a dampened microfibre cloth, taking care not to let liquids seep into the frame or damage the metal backing.
