Originating in Venice and Murano during the Renaissance, Venetian mirrors are distinguished by their all-glass design, incorporating glass frames, hand-etched foliage decoration, bevelled edges, and glass rosettes covering the mounting screws.

Traditional Venetian mirrors were crafted using hand-blown plate glass backed with a tin-mercury amalgam, surrounded by individually etched mirror strips and secured with delicate hand-moulded glass corner rosettes or metal fixings onto a wooden backing frame.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-engraved motifs with subtle variations, multi-panel glass construction, oxidisation or dark spots within the silvering, and original hand-formed glass rosettes securing the mirror plates.
